Long Neck Shiraz
Thus far in my life, I have never had a bad South African Wine. And, while this wine that I am writing about wasn’t a great wine, it still lives up to my assumption that South Africa doesn’t make a bad wine. Perhaps I will be proven wrong one day, but today isn’t it.
Wine: 2003 Shiraz
Winery: Long Neck
Country: South Africa - Western Cape
Price: $6.99
Where: BevMo, of course.
The nose had a touch of black plum, but did have that astringent smell of alcohol. The taste was good, but seemed to me to not be very juicy. I have found that most good Shiraz wines have a very juicy palette to them. The finish was somewhat smooth, but it left me with a slight dryness in my mouth. Now, remember to take that with a grain of salt - I have braces, and they seem to make most wines somewhat dry.
Again, not a bad wine, but not on the Top-10.
