Bolla Pinot Grigio

madwine_1935_421802.jpegFor lunch today, I invited over a few co-workers that had heard about our wine blog, and decided to try an interesting mix. Chipotle and a Pinot Grigio. Turned out rather well for us.

2005 Pinot Grigio
Winery: Bolla (although it is only in Italian)
Country: Italy (della Venezie or of Venice)
Price: $7.99 at BevMo

Let’s get technical. At first smell, the nose was described by Barry, my fellow sales colleague, with hints of apple, pear and green grape (the bottle has down pear, peach, apricot and lime), so he was right on. Then the drink. The immediate response was that of light and refreshing. Like a classic pinot grigio, it has a very mild palette as compared to a chardonay. Then, the finish was incredibly smooth with a light aftertaste of a granny smith apple (but not a sour). This one gets two thumbs up from me.

Oh, and did you know that the Pinot Grig grape is actually a purple grape, yet you get a great white wine from it.
