2005 Gnarly Head Old Vine Zin

old vine zinA late Sunday evening while back at the ranch (ok, so it was only my apartment), and I had been cooking a Porter Beef Stew for 8 hours (yes, porter as in beer). It was a very hearty, clear broth stew with the typical veggie mix in it. I thought a nice simple Zin would be a perfect compliment. I was right.

2005 Zinfandel
Winery: Gnarly Head
Location: Lodi, California
Varietal: Old Vine Zinfandel
Price: $9.99 with BevMo discount

From the first smell of the wine, I knew I picked a winner. In the first smell was a berry patch in full bloom. The head was incredibly juicy and slightly sweet. The taste was for lack of better words, thick and juicy, but perfectly tasty. The finish was smooth and medium in length. This has made my top ten zin list.
