Viano Sand Rock Hill Zin
On St. Patrick’s Day, I had the fortuitous opportunity to stumble upon a quaint winery located in Martinez. The good fortune came by way of a good friend, with whom I was running an errand. He mentioned that we’d be passing by a winery, and I insisted we find out if they had a tasting room. Good fortune was the theme of the day, as they do indeed have a tasting room. My visit to Contrad Viano Winery proved that there’s much more to Martinez than the scenery offered from highways 4 and 80. One of the best surprises were the prices of their wines. Viano is situated on a great family owned property and the wines are delightful. Now for the wine that wins my review.
Wine: Sand Rock Hill Zinfandel, 2004
Winery: Viano Vinyards
Price: $13
Where to Buy: BevMo
This wonderful Zin has a nose filled with blackberry and a subtle floral scents. Berry comes through strong on the pallet, and is followed by dry full bodied finish. As with most Zins that I’ve reviewed in this price range, it’s not very big, but a definite buy at thirteen bucks.
