Le Grande Noir 2004
While I was up in Chicago this weekend, I was going to cook for my friends whose house i was staying at. I thought it only fair to cook a meal for them. Well, that meal is tomorrow, but tonight, I decided to try out a good wine while watching SNL. Here it is.
Le Grande Noir (Black Sheep) 2004
Cabernet-Shiraz (60/40 blend)
France
The Fresh Market Price $12.99
This wine is a Vin de Pays (table wine) from Languedoc-Roussillon, in France. I was really amazed at the subtle nose on this wine. It was unreflective of the rest of the experience. With a very deep fruit flavor (bottle says black currant), it is not overly sweet. In fact, the fruitiness does not stand out at all. Instead, it is a thick, full-bodied Cabernet-Shiraz, that has a slight taste of spice on the tongue and a very, very smooth finish. So, far this has been the best Vin de Pays that I have had to date.
