2 Brothers - Big Tattoo Red
Before tasting a wine, heck, even before buying I like to look at labels. For three reasons.
- Art work - I know that it doesn’t have anything to do with the flavor, but it is like a cover on a book: it may make you buy it.
- Flavors - although I don’t always taste what the label says, 75% of the time I do. It helps me to make food choices.
- Story - I like to learn a bit of history about the vineyard and the winemakers.
Wine: 2 Brothers Big Tattoo Red 2004
Country: Chile
Region: Colchagua
Price: $9.99 at World Market
For the first 10 minutes the head on this wine smells of over-ripe berries - almost sour. But, after 25 minutes, it opened up and became a very smooth, yet dry, wine. Once again, not complex, but it is a good mix of grapes: 50/50 Cabernet and Syrah.
But, alas, the story. I became emotionally biased when I read that the 2 brothers, Alex and Erik, started this wine in 2001 after their mother died from cancer. 50 cents of every bottle goes to raise funds for cancer research. Read more here.
