Concannon Central Coast Cabernet Sauvignon
My lovely wife Sami found this gem at Safeway on The Alameda in Santa Clara.
Concannon Cabernet Sauvignon, 2004
Central Coast
Concannon Vineyards
Reg. Price $10.99
Safeway Club Card Price $7.76
We joked around a bit with the descriptive adjectives, but here goes. The nose has a hint of smokeyness with pepper and black cherry aromas. To the taste, it’s on the acidic side (not necessarily a bad thing) with a bit of the aforementioned pepper and rasberry notes. For the casual cab fan, I give it high marks. We enjoyed a couple of glasses with a traditional California meal of grilled chicken (Tofurky Kielbasa for Sami), garlic mashed potatos and green beans sauteed in olive oil, garlic and bread crumbs–proving that a decent red goes well with just about anything. Personally, I’d have to say that the quality of this varietal is more reflected by its $10.99 regular price than by its Safeway Club Card price of $7.76. I do, however, tend to make assumptions based on price, not necessarily a good thing.
